U-16 Girls Championship Campaign

U-16 Girls Championship Campaign
Our U16 girls have been busy over the last number of weeks, with two of their three group games now played.
Coláiste Cholmcille produced a brilliant team performance against Dungloe. CCBS got off to a great start with a well-taken goal from Lucy McGrath. Dungloe had the advantage of the wind in the first half and made good use of it, kicking some excellent long-range scores. Katie McGuinness and Jenna Britton also added to the scoreboard, leaving the half-time score
at 2-5 to 0-7.
Coláiste Cholmcille knew they would have to work hard to hold on to their lead, as Dungloe continued to battle right to the final whistle. Dungloe scored three well-taken goals in a 15-minute spell, putting the pressure on CCBS.
However, the Coláiste Cholmcille defence stood strong, with Kate McGrath, Ella McGoldrick and Lexi Mai Roper putting Dungloe under pressure and limiting their scoring opportunities. Tiah Kane and Niamh Patton drove the team forward, creating the opportunity for Jenna Britton to add another crucial score and seal a fantastic victory.
Final score: Coláiste Cholmcille 4-7, Dungloe 3-6.

The girls’ second game was against a very strong Stranorlar team. CCBS struggled to get scores on the board, while Stranorlar made the most of their opportunities. Despite the challenge, the girls never gave up, with Katie Lipsett, Kayla McDermott and Lexi Mai Roper working hard in defence. Bethany McNamee also produced some excellent goalkeeping.
The final score was
5-15 to 1-5 in favour of Stranorlar. Well done to the girls for continuing to battle throughout the game against very strong opposition.

The team now turns its attention to the final group game against our neighbours, AVS Donegal,
on
Thursday, 23 October, at 11:15 am in Donegal Town.

Best of luck to the girls in their final group game!
